Coleg Sir Gar hospitality and catering students were crowned winners the Institute of Hospitality Dining Award in a ceremony held in Cardiff (6th June). Having faced a panel of judges and cooked a three course meal of locally sourced produce, the Coleg Sir Gar team beat stiff competition from another 7 colleges from across Mid and South Wales to be named 2011 champions.
The first Carmarthen Food Festival takes place this summer – and the Carmarthen Journal wants its readers to get involved. The main aim behind the festival which takes place on Wednesday, 27th July, is to support local producers and give them an opportunity to promote their products.

1. Ingredients
375g strong bread flour (bought direct via a farmers’ market, farm shop, online or from the mill itself), pinch salt, 225 ml tepid water (38C), 10g sugar, 25g fresh yeast or 3 tblspns dried, 50ml olive oil. For brown bread use 50/50 wholemeal and strong white bread flour.
